Can't get Word to open my documents, which are Word docs.

When I am in Microsoft Word 2003, and try to open one of my Word files in My
Documents, the link freezes up. I can open the same Word documents by going
through My Computer, but that is awkward, and it is difficult to save and
manage docs. The feature worked fine for 2 years after initial installation
of Windows and Microsoft.

This is an excellent response to what you should do after Word crashes.
However, it does not address the probable causes of a Word crash.
I just discovered the answer to that: yesterday's security upgrade by
Microsoft prevented me from entering My Documents. When I restored my
computer to a point in the prevfious day, the problem disappeared.

The security update issue caught out a few people - especially those who
have their PCs configured to download updates automatically. Personally I
never allow Microsoft to download anything to my machine without my express
permission.

If you have Windows configured to automatically update, then it doesn't
matter what day it is. Microsoft encourages users to accept its updates
without question. Sometimes they get it wrong.
