This morning I was on line..just doing normal things, when
all of a sudden WITHOUT warning,my computer just shut
off...not slowly, but as fast as turning off a light
switch. When I went to turn it back on,it started to
boot,2 seconds into the windows xp "starting windows
screen" it re booted. This just kept happening over and
over.I removed the hard drive ,set it as a slave and
installed it into a working computer as a slave, and it
would not let the working computer boot,as long as it was
installed.I also ran the seagate diagnostic utility which
passed both the quick and the long version test, but on
both occasions at the end of the test the computer would
lock, and this was when it was set up as a slave in a
working computer.
My question is...is there any utility available
(hopefully free) that could be beneficial in retrieving
the files off that drive?
Running xp pro ntfs format and seagate 40 gig hard drive
7200rpm
Drive is about 6 months old,and had NO previous problems.
Thankyou in advance for any and all input on this.
