can't get the max. resolution on GMA X3000 graphic card

Hi,

I have Vista Business running on a Intel DG865RY motherboard with
build-in Intel GMA X3000 graphic card. This machine is connected to a
Dell E228WFP LCD. For some reason, I am not able to setup the video to
use the optimal resolution (1680*1050). I know both my video card and
monitor support this resolution. I upgraded both the bios and the driver
for the video card and it didn't make any difference. When choosing
the resolution within the display property, this resolution is just not
available. If I choose something higher, the monitor will complain that
this is not a supported mode. I have another identical machine and it is
experiencing the exact same problem.

Anyone has an idea?

Thanks

hello..

there is a small catch here...

that there is a monitor driver (its not actually a driver but an .inf file)
that you should supply to windows so it will know exactly the limits of the
monitor..

what is happening is that windows does not know the exact model of your
monitor and probably has a plug and play monitor... so it cannot display the
correct resolution for it...

you should find the inf file from the site of the monitor or the cd if it
had it...

install that as the monitor "driver" and then the exact perfect resolution
will be displayed...

IF you cannot find that or it is too much hassle.. there is a setting in
the display settings to make vista use all resolutions.. so you can pick
the best one....

Go into device manager and delete your video card and monitor.
Reboot.
