can't get sp2

I've been trying all day to do a clean reinstall of xp on a reformatted
drive. My disk is old, early sp1. Install is no problem, but I CANNOT get
sp2! I had a cd-rom I've used before, but it is corrupted. So, I formatted
again, went to download sp2, but the update site just recycles me over and
over. Keeps downloading and installing update software, restart, go back to
site, it does it again. Once I got to a list of my critical updates, which
are all security patches for sp2. But not sp2 itself. Every link I have tried
takes me back to the update cycle, over and over. It won't even let me update
to IE& so I can download the active-x control. I have spent 6 hours just
trying to get sp2, and I am desparate.

My xp is legal and activated. Info says I have xp w/service pack 1. I can't
load my Mobo or graphics card software w/o sp2. This thing has driven me to
tears and yelling, and I wish I had an effigy of Bill Gates to burn.

Please, please help!

Hi:

Did Microsoft ever answer you? My hard drive died last month, I think I had
a virus and lost EVERYTHING, and when I put the new hard drive in I used my
original XP. Was always able to update with the other hard drive, but I am
in update hell. It will download everything, but when it comes to
installing, no way. What did you find out?

Get the full download, burn it to CD and keep it if you ever need it again -
