can't get serial ports to work.

I have two programs that use the serial port, ( I only have one serial port,
com port 1). One for my C.E.D. Chronograph and one for Radio Shacks radio
scanner program. I have made all of the bit stops and other configurations
correctly, I believe but it just won't work. Radio Shack and C.E.D. are
helpful. What to do. Running Windows XP Pro.

Have you enabled serial port support in the BIOS?

yes and I changed it from Irq 4 to auto.
