Can't Get Rid of "United States of America" In Address

B

buyhome

When I'm creating an envelope in Word, and use the
address book to retrieve an address from my PAB, the
final line for all domestic addresses reads "United
States of America." How do I make that go away??

Can you be more specific? tried it and now it doesn't work. How do I start
over????

Russ

this is what I tried to do. some of my insert addresses from outlook 2000
(oem version) to Word 2000 (oem version) were ending up with addressee line
like this

Betty White
1234 Smith Street
Brookfield,MO. 64628
United States Of America

I didn't want to print the last line.

So when the original poster "buyhome" asked how to remove the last line you
suggested to read the articles:
http://www.slipstick.com/contacts/insword.htm
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q134901

I clicked on the first html address and read the article. Opened Word 2000
as it suggested and typed this in as close as possible:

<PR_GIVEN_NAME> <PR_SURNAME>
<PR_TITLE>
<PR_COMPANY_NAME>
<PR_STREET_ADDRESS>
<PR_LOCALITY>, <PR_STATE_OR_PROVINCE> <PR_POSTAL_CODE>

(I think I typed it wrong)
I then selected what I had typed.. I clicked on Insert on the toolbar then
clicked on Auto then on new and named it address.

I closed the file. Open a new word document and clicked on tools,Envelopes
and Labels and when the box came up clicked on the address book and clicked
on my first entry in the address book which was
a-1 lawn care
1234 Sunny Place
Brookfield,Mo.64628

All that printed on the label was
care
MO.64628

I then removed the auto file from the tool bar in Word 200 and retyped the
macro. I clicked on Insert on the toolbar then clicked on Auto then on new
and named it addressform again.

I closed the file. Open a new word document and clicked on tools,Envelopes
and Lables and when the box came up clicked on the address book and clicked
on my first entry in the address book which was
a-1 lawn care
and got the following error message:

Word cannot insert the address. One or more address fields are missing from
the selected address book. Pick another address book or change your layout
and try again."

This is where I am now.
Thanks Bill

That error message simply means you inserted a field name that does not
exist in Outlook. Several of the field names do not match between Outlook
and Word, so you have to select the field names carefully. That article
tells you how to match the fields, so you need to look that part over. You
may also need to make use of curly braces and field switches to get the
results you want.

That article will also tell you that you must name the AutoText entry
"AddressLayout" --nothing else will work. I really do think everything you
need to know is listed in that article on Slipstick. If not, there is an
entire Word group on mail merges where the people who really know this stuff
hang out. These are all Word issues, so we Outlook people may not be the
best to answer your questions.

Russ,

To remove United States of America from the label could you open the
individual contact and click on address and if it has United States of
America in the last line of the address highlight it and press delete
leaving it blank? Would that remove it or would it default back to United
States of America when inserting it?

It depends on your version. Removing the United States manually from each
entry works in many versions but is tedious since Outlook always appends the
Country to the Contact Record based on location settings.
