Hi there,

I can't seem to get rid of the Adobe PDF toolbar nor the "MyWebSearch"
toolbar.....I take the check mark out...of View | Toolbars and they always
keep coming back.

The check mark at MSCONFIG | Startup for the MyWebSearch was taken out, only
to have it regenerate and come back.....

I've run SpyBot, PestPatrol, and Norton A/V 2004..... Pest Patrol and Norton
A/Virus finds more "adware" than SpyBot, but still not fully successful in
keeping them from coming up again.

Is there anything in the registry that I can modify?

Thanks,

Gordon

Hi Gordon,

Download all of these utilities and scan the system.

Note: Spyware removers are rules-based and are updated very frequently as and when new malware is discovered. Therefore, update both of these tools before scanning, very important.

Lavasoft Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
SpyBot S&D - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder : http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe
ToolbarCop - For quick removal of a toolbar, download my program Toolbarcop from http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/toolbarcop.htm and run it. Spot the entry and delete it. It automatically takes a backup of the deleted key.

If that does not help, download HijackThis from http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/ Generate a log using HijackThis and visit any of these forums below to post your HijackThis log. The experts there will guide you how to remove the spyware from your system:

http://forums.spywareinfo.com
http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/

Note down the Security tips from Mike Burgess, in his site below:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Again, if you don't update the pattern files for the spyware removal tool you're using, the scan won't be effective at all.

I can't seem to get rid of the Adobe PDF toolbar nor the "MyWebSearch"
toolbar.....I take the check mark out...of View | Toolbars and they always
keep coming back.

I also had that problem recently, especially with dealing with IE6's
full-screen mode.
The check mark at MSCONFIG | Startup for the MyWebSearch was taken out, only
to have it regenerate and come back.....

I would expect something like that to happen. Most malware will recognize
that it's not in your startup list for certain applications, and it resets
its own entry in your config panels. The only way to stop this from
happening is to remove the programme itself.
Is there anything in the registry that I can modify?

Unless you are extremely sure of yourself, I would not suggest playing
around with your system registry... First, use the Windows Add/Remove
Programmes utility to see if those toolbars are listed there. If so, remove
them. If not, you can just tell IE to not use it. Right click on the
toolbar you want to get rid of and deselect it. Then right click on a
toolbar you want to keep and make sure the "Lock Toolbars" option is
enabled. This should fix your problem.

Program Files/Internet Explorer/Plugins. Anything there will be run every time
you start the program. (Your problem has nothing to do with spyware.)
