can't get internet page to show on full screen

When I open a page on the internet, it seems to only take
up half the screen - sometimes to the left and sometimes
right in the center. How can I fix this? Thanks for any
advice.

Open such a link.
Don't use the maximize button.
Stretch the edges/corners so that the window fills the screen.
Close all other IE windows.
Close the stretched window last.
