Can't get autocompletion of email addresses

Hi all

I have had to completely reformat my hard disc but I managed to back
up some of my MS Outlook 2002 (SP2) data files. After re-installing
Outlook I don't seem to be able to get my email addresses to auto
complete when I start to type them in any more in a new email,
although all of my Contacts seem to be intact. Can anyone please help?

Thanks

There is no autocomplete in Outlook. Outlook does however holds a cache of
address you used before. Since you formatted your harddisk you've cleared
the cache as well and have to be rebuild. Note that CTRL+K (CTRL+M for some
local versions) does a namecheck as well

Just by mailing a lot ;-) It's like the History function of Internet
Explorer
It is stored in <profilename>.nk2.

Thanks for that.

Now for another problem which I have just noticed. When I create a new
email and I click on the 'To' button, next to where I would type in
the email address, I get a window 'Select Names' that doesn't have any
of my contact's email addresses shown, with only 'Personal Address
Book' displayed in the drop down box in the top right hand corner. All
of my contacts exist in the 'Contacts' folder of Outlook but none
here. Any ideas?

Many thanks.

If you have Contacts in the Contacts folder but they are not accessible when you click on the To button, check these settings:

Make sure the Contact folder is enabled as an email address book. Right click the Contacts folder, choose Properties then Outlook Address Book. Is the box to enable as email address book is checked?

If this is grayed out...

Go to Tools | Email Accounts, choose View or change existing directories or address book. Is the Outlook Address Book present? If it isn't listed, add it and close and restart Outlook. If it is listed, then remove it and close then restart Outlook and repeat these steps to add it.

Thanks you for the reply.

You're right, the Outlook Address Book wasn't present. Your concise
walk through sorted the problem out. Very much appreciated!

Thanks
