Sorry if you've read this before. I'm sure I posted it on Friday but cannot
now find original posting nor any response so am trying again.

I have two PCs networked. They share a printer connected to PC1. Until
recently both PCs were using Win98. Have recently upgraded PC1 to WinXP (PC2
still running Win98). Have set up the network and both PCs can see and
access each other's shared drives. Have also defined the printer as shared
and PC1 recognises it as such. PC2 however cannot find that printer. What
am I doing wrong?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Pete

assuming you see every thing on PC1, make sure the printer sharing name less
than 12 characters. this may help, quoted from
http://www.chicagotech.net/troubleshootingwin9x.htm

Why win9x cannot see a printer

Win 2000 can see the print name or folder name but win9x cannot because the
name of the printer or folder is too long (more than 12 characters).

Pete,

Check the printer name / printer comment on the server (remember Windows XP is
Windows NT V5.1):

Have you ran the "Add a Printer" Wizard on the computer that can't see it?
You would also need to keep in mind that you will be adding it as a network
printer.

Hope this helps

Very many thanks Robert!! That was it!! So simple when you know how, but
who would ever have thought of it when neither system tells you?!!

I am very grateful!

Dear Robert:

I see your answer to the problem of peter... I have absolutely the
inverse... I have a Windows NT network with various PC´s, some with Win98,
others with Win2000 and others With WinXP, but my problem itps exactly with 2
machines: The first have Win98 and LPT1 instaled printer, this printer its
sharing... the second PC have WinXP and after very patience he find the
printer in Win98 and install this. But when I start my microsoft Word 2003
and try print a document, the word say: 'The printer not respond... would
like wait a printer?'....THIS IS THE PROBLEM!! How I can solve this??

Thank You!
