Can't find personal settings - lost emails!!!

When I boot up XP Home, I get the error message "can't
locate personal settings" and then it loads a temporary
profile. Now I can't access any of the email messages or
the address book from Outlook Express. How can I access
that stuff - it must be stored with the personal settings?
I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm lost without those
emails and addresses!!!

re-load the backup copy you made of your address book...you did make a
backup copy....
