Can't find parallel port driver

Ever since I reinstalled the drivers and utilities from the original
install disk for my HP DeskJet 722C (which I now notice only say it
supports up to NT), Win2K says I have a new "Parallel Device" when I
boot up or run Add/Remove from Control Panel.

However the Install New Hardware Wizard can not find any device drivers
for it !

The HP Web site won't even download the "current" drivers/utilities
because it says I am "up to date"

The printer works, but this is very annoying.

You shouldn't have had to install anything supplemental. Windows 2000
supports and should have installed the driver for the printer. (exact same
printer I have at home)

You might try unplugging the printer, restart for effect, then to display
hidden devices, non-Plug and Play devices, and devices not attached to the
computer (commonly known as "ghosted" or "phantom" devices) From a command
prompt;

set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
then
start devmgmt.msc

Then, use Device Manager to remove or the printer.

Restart for effect with the printer connected and turned on and it should be
detected. If not you can Control Panel|Add New Hardware to invoke the
wizard.
