Can't find NIC card on laptop

W

Wayne B.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop and I have been trying
to get to the properties of the NIC card that's
intergrated into it so I can connect it to my home
network to transfer some files. I'm not really familiar
with notebooks at all, but I figured that I would be able
to see it in >Network Connections< and >Computer
Management<, the same way that I would on a desktop.

I cannot find any trace of the NIC anywhere on the
thing. In >Net Con< I see my modem, in >PC Manage<, I see
my modem, but not the NIC. I don't know if there's
something that's not right with this particular laptop,
or...., that I have to go thru a different way of getting
the NIC card seen.
Could someone shed some light on this issue for me
please. I'm lost. ????????? THANX N ADVANCE The

try right clicking "my computer"/properties/hardware
tab/device manager - see if the card is listed there
under network adaptors. If not, try clicking view(whilst
still in device manager), then "show hidden devices".
If you can find it in device manager, check to see if it
is enabled or "scan for new harware" or install it
manually if you know the make/model

That's exactly what I'm trying to do. But how can you
install drivers for a device that the computer don't
recognize or see at all. ALSO,.....This NIC is an
intergrated part of the laptop, that's where I'm really
confused. How DOESN'T it realize that the card exist????
It's like the NIC card don't exist at all to the
laptop. Wayne B.

Can it be disabled in BIOS?
Do you see it in device manager? (or are there any unrecognized devices?)

Hi Pavel. I'm not seeing it in the BIOS, and it does not
show up in device manager at all. There are no 'other
devices'. Wayne B.

So....
I take it from your answer that there are no yellow exclamation marks (or
any other problems) in device manager.
In device manager, do you have a Network Adapters section? If so, what's
listed in there?
How old and what model toshiba satellite do you have (so we can go look for
a detailed spec)?
Did you receive any driver disks with it?
Pavel asked the question about BIOS because, usually if peripherals are
integrated onto the motherboard, the manufacturer gives you options to
enable/disable them in there. On m/bs Ive owned they're usually listed
together in a single screen
