can't find cd driver

I just had my cd driver fixed. I had downloaded my new ipod onto my computer.
Not all the songs were being read off my cd's onto my ipod. In the process
of trying to fix the problem (not sure what all I have done) I have lost the
cd shortcut icon on my desktop. I have done system restore. The icon is back
on my desktop with a yellow exclamation mark on it. I have tried PC onPoint.
That has not helped. Any suggestions as to what to do? Thanks Karen

Karen, First delete the Yellow Marked Shortcut on the desktop. Then open
MyComputer and rt click the cd drive icon. Select Create a Shortcut. You
will get a message saying it can't
do it here but will place it on the desktop. Say Ok.

Unfortunately there is no cd drive icon under MyComputer either. The only
place I can see the cd drive is under Device Manager, DVD/CD-ROM drives.
There it has HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4521B. Beside this is a yellow exclamation
point. Whe I click on this, this is what I get "Windows successfully loaded
the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device.
(Code 41)". I understand from other readings that I possibly need to fix the
registry. Unfortunately because I have never backed up data before, the
Backup Wizard is currently not available. Since my CD drive does not
currently read any CD's, I can't open the wizard using my Windows XP CD.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Karen
