I just gave my grandson a Sony Vaio with Windows 2000 on it, and I can't
find a Win 2000 compatible DVD decoder. I went on to Sony and tried it
there, no luck. The model is a Matshita UJDA720. DVD/CDRW. I went to google,
and only got sites that send you pop-ups and sell you stuff. .........Peter

Should learn to customize your search better as well as use some of the
leads you get/don't get to narrow the field.

Search using Google!
http://www.google.com/
(How-to: http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html )

Here's one..
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Stinky_MPEG_2_Codec.htm

The Full version of K-Lite Codec pack also contains one..

Let's see what's on the desktop here --- a Windows 2000
computer. There's DVD-Cloner, DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter.
And one more thing...if something is going to work well,
there's no such thing as a free lunch. One can't get too
greedy with the savings from ripping DVD movies without
paying a small pittance to the piper.

I don't know if Media Player Classic works on W2K, but if it does, it
will play DVDs without relying on a separate decoder. The program is
free. VLC (www.videolan.org) is another free player that will handle
DVDs using a built in decoder.

Finally, although I haven't used it for this purpose, FFDSHOW can be
configured to handle MPEG2 files (which is what DVDs are encoded with),
so I suspect that it may be used to play DVDs with just about any
player.

Many many thanks for the generous help from you all. This is being used just
to watch movies, not to copy movies, honestly. My grandson is bored and
likes to watch movies today. I have to talk to his mother. (my daughter)I
will write more later, I am volunteering today to give things away. Bless
you all again. Maybe my grandson will come along, wow a good idea. You
wonderful people here, I wish you all the best for the holidays......Opa
