can't even shut down

Some computers are set up so that you have to hold the power button
in for 4 or 5 seconds before the power is cut.

have you found a solution yet? I have a similar problem. I
can shut it off manually by holding the power button for
about 4 seconds. However, i want to shut down using the
start menue then "shut off", when i do that now, it doesnt
do anything it doesnt lock up or freeze or hang. The shut
off box goes away and then thats it, like if i never told
it to shut off. Solutions yet? Anyone?
