Your email account provider should have a help page on their website with
the correct server names and settings.
Some even have tutorials. If they don't have one for Windows Mail, use the
one for Outlook Express.

Or, if you tell us who provides your email account, perhaps someone can
help.

For Comcast, try using these instructions (for OE, but it's the same for WM)

Here is the instructions for comcast.net settings. The title mentioned
Outlook Express. It's OK. It works with Windows Mail too. :

Please correct that Time/Date setting.

The only reason I can think of for Comcast to ask for microsoft.com is you
are trying to access microsoft newsgroups.

Comcast has discontinued newsgroup access.

If you are trying to access microsoft newsgroups use the microsoft news
server. "msnews.microsoft.com"
