Can't encrypt files

I can't encrypt my files and folders in win xp home sp2. When i try, i
cann't put a check mark in the encrypt contents to secure data box..it's
greyed out. any help would be appreciated..thanks.

Note that WinXP Home doesn't have the EFS (encryption) feature.
WinXP Pro has that feature.

if yous HD is FAT and not NTFS ...the option is not available

The OP has XP Home installed and in that case, EFS is not available
in general. No matter what file system being installed.
