Can't edit Master Slide

A

Allen Rongone

Hello,
We have a user using Office X who receive a PowerPoint presentation from a
colleague. The presentation does not include the slide numbers at the bottom
of each slide, so we thought we could just go into the Master Slide and add
them, but we were wrong. Whenever we are in the Master Slide view and select
Format->Master Layout we get the Master Layout window and indeed the "Slide
Number" box is unchecked. However if click on it and place a check mark
there, then click on OK the number area object DOES NOT appear on the Master
Slide! If e then go back and select Format->Master Layout the Slide Number
box is, again, unchecked! Does this mean that the Master Slide is somehow
locked from being edited? If so, how would one unlock it. And for the matter
how do you lock a Master Slide?

Thank you for any help in the matter,
Allen Rongone

Could you clarify the version of PPT you're using, please?

If you turn on the placeholder on the master, it shouldn't become unchecked.
You might try going to View | Header and Footer and checking the slide
number option -- maybe then it will stick? (That shouldn't be necessary, but
hey, it's worth a shot!)

You can't lock a master slide from editing. Not this kind of editing,
anyway.

Hi Echo S

The Macintosh in question is running Office X. I've been able to duplicate
the problem on Macintosh which is running Office 2004.

We have tried checking the slide number option. Actually that is what led us
to the problem, since none of the slides were showing a number in the lower
right hand side.

By "turning on the place holder" do you mean placing a check mark in the
"slide number" box of the master layout?

We have both tried this but the "number area" object does not appear
anywhere on the Master Slide, let alone the lower right-hand.

Thanks,
Allen Rongone

Thanks, Allen.

I'm not sure why this would be happening. You might want to post on the Mac
PPT group. It's not obvious, but this group is really PC-centered.

Thanks Echo S,

I wasn't sure if there was a separate forum for Macintosh. I'll post over
there.
