can't download programs from internet

When attempting to download programs, a blank page appears
with an icon in upper left corner. Status bar says "done"
but download fails. no error message is displayed. This
happened while trying to download from microsoft site.
Appreciate any guidance on this.

If it is only .exe files, then read on and see if this is relevant:
You may have an invalid plugin.
Netscape-Style Plug-ins Do Not Work After Upgrading Internet Explorer

Remove the plugin with Regedit.exe
Start-Run-Regedit.exe
Navigate down to this key and remove it, after exporting it as a
normal safety precaution.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.exe

If that key exists, then you will see what plugin has been installed.
The key does not normally exist.

.I have the same problem, only a bit worse. I cannot

download anything with IE. Pictures, Zips, exe. programs,
nothing. I get a window that says unable to find host. I
uninstalled and reinstalled IE 6 because it was running so
slow. It is STILL slow. Ran spyware before uninstalling,
nothing detected. Any ideas?

I have the same problem but for download of Pdfs - any suggestions on how to
cure this?

Then you do not have the same thing. Start a new thread using a more
descriptive subject line.

Try my response using a .pdf key instead of the .exe key.
