can't download patch to update outlook express..

i have the office 2000 bundle installed on my computer
and apparently i have a virus attached to my outlook
express...but any of the updates/patches i have
downloaded say i have to have a higher version installed
first..what should i do?? i don't use my outlook express
at all, so i kinda was thinkin i'd rather delete it, but
i was curious to see what my options were (i don't want
to pay 30$ for an answer to a question, call me cheap) =P

Terra,
I am going to assume that you have windows xp installed and you updated
to service pack 2.
How is this interfering with outlook?

(Outlook express needs to be installed in order for Outlook to work because
it uses Outlook express files)
