Can't download anything from the internet

When I try to download anything from the internet I get a
message. "Internet Explorer was not able to open this
Internet site.
The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be
found."
Has anyone any ideas of what the problem could be. I would
appreciate any help I could get.

Also rule out parasite.

Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
