Can't download 2007 Office files from gmail

I have Vista and Office 2007 on my laptop, but my computer, or something, is
not recognizing the 2007 Word and Excel file type attachments on my gmail.
Any suggestions?

What suffix does gmail show for a Word attachmnet?

Try downloading the 2007 compatibility patch from MS for Office. The sender
may have used Office 2003 to derive the original document.
