Can't disable mouse pad on laptop.

How can I disable my mouse pad on my laptop? The disable box on the
properties page is unavailable. Is there another way? It used to be
available until I reinstalled Windows XP Media Center Edition.

If it was available before you did the reinstall, I would suspect that there
is a mouse pad driver that you didn't install.
