My computer cannot detect my SATA II HD except I set the jumper to limit at
the speed of 1.5G/s. What's the possible problem that could be?

Your mobo may have specific settings/requirements for installing a sata
drive.
You need to read this as the specifics vary

Peter,

If your disk is recognized in SATA1 but not in SATA2 mode then
the motherboard SATA controller does not support SATA2.
(or a BIOS setting prevents this, never seen tho).
See motherboard specifications. If SATA2 is supported the manufacturer will
definately say so.

You won't notice any performance loss tho, as only disk cache hits transfer
at full speed
(8MB / 16MB). For sustained transfer and seeks the disk mechanics are the
limiting factor.

When removing the jumper from the SATA drive it's interface support SATA II
(330MB/s).
You will get but only when the motherboard SATA controller

John............first its not my problem its Eliots problem
2nd..when they were working on SATA 1 they had no idea as
to SATA 2 specs so they could not have build it into the BIOS so its a Hard
drive problem. On the other hand maybe his MOBO is newer and capable of
SATA1 and SATA 2 and the "jumper" that he mentioned controls that option.
most SATA2 HD are backwards compatible....they
just transfer the data slower.

His problem is that his BIOS is not recognizing the SATA2 HD plugged into a
SATA1 port even after he set the "jumper"
I have seen SATA2 drivers but have never seen one with a jumper...........so
where is the "jumper"???
I seen and read the manuals of SATA2 MOBO and again have never seen one with
a jumper????
