Cant detect all drives

I hava a 40 GB seagate, 4.3 GB Maxtor and Asus 52x CDRom Drive. However my
system cant seem to be able to detect all drives particularly both the hd's
together. I have the seagate as pri. master and CD Rom as sec. master. If I
connect the Maxtor as pri. slave the seagate disappears. I do remember
getting them all together but it didnt remain that way for long. The only
stable config. seems to be the 40GB and CD on masters. I think the jumpers
and cables are all correct.

A few days ago I described the problem of my casing which gives a slight
current If I touch it bear footed. Could both these problems be related?
what can I do about the wiring of the house as suggested by some. The place
I live, its difficult to find someone really qualified to solve these
problems so I'm hesitant to take the PC to some shop.

thx.

recheck the jumper settings on the hdd's - do NOT use
cable select. if you're not sure where the jumpers go try the manufacturers
website for info or just go through the
various combinations til you get it right.

I don't think anything's wrong with your house wiring. I think
it's a partial short in your computer case. Check your wires
inside the case to see if anything has rubbed through the wire
insulation. Look behind your motherboard to see if anything fell
down there, or is lying against the front of the board. Think
about replacing your power supply. Do all this before you start
tearing wires out of your walls.

Um...if house wiring wasn't at fault, why would he feel any power from a
short to the case? All the power should be shunted to ground and he wouldn't
feel anything.

If you get more than just a static spark from touching any electrical
appliance then you have a bad ground - house wiring or within the appliance
itself.
