Can't delete registry entry

When scanning with Microsoft spyware s/w, the program hangs while scanning
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/software/vendor/xml. When I try to delete this key using
regedit, the program says their was an error tying to delete the key. I also
tried this in Safe Mode, but got the same result. Whether this entry is
spyware or not, I can't perform maintenance as the program will not finish..
Anyone have any suggestions?
