Can't delete messages from Deleted box in Outlook Express

I see that many other people are having the same problem but I do not see a
solution or patch suggested by Microsoft for this product defect. When I try
to delete I get an unknown error message. I cannot lose my other mail folders
so any solution must be specific to my deleted folder.

Microsoft *has* fixed this issue in what they say is WM's replacement:

No one knows if the fix will ever make it to WM.
So, it's your choice if you want to continue to struggle with this issue.
