Can't delete files

I have run into one. When trying to delete a group of files by highlighting them and htting the delete key it adds copies of the files instead of putting them in the trash. Is there anyone out there that has an answer besides rebujilding the whole system?

Is this after copying them to a CD?
If so, how did you copy them?

It happens because you are dragging and dropping the selected files prior to
hitting the delete key. You need to avoid doing this after selecting the
group of files.
