Can't delete e-mails

Outlook 2002
I can't delete certain e-mails in one of my mail folders. This is a recent
problem. I get one of these two messages and neither remedy works:
1) The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem
persists, restart Outlook.
2) (told to use the scanpst tool to repair the file).
I have done both but neither remedy works.
Do I need to reinstall Outlook?
