can't decrypt after format!!

Hi, i recently reformated my HD and re-installed win xp
pro. before formating i backed up all of the usual stuff.
after i xp pro was done reinstalling i tried to access my
backed up (encrypted) files on the other hd... but i
can't access them! I know the old username and password
and everything. how can i get my files back?!??!

If the data was actually encrypted, it is most likely gone for good
unless you also backed up the appropriate keys.

If it is not encryption, step 1 on that link Take Ownership may help.

You need the Security Certificate used to encrypt the files. Without that Certificate, you
are SOL.

This is the same for encrypted email.
