Can't create additional DC's

G

Geoffrey Rance

After having an inital problem with a disjointed
namespace on the AD box (fixed now). I'm trying to
create additional DC's and it's not letting me. On the
first screen where I put in the Username|Password|Domain,
I put in the new .com domain and it says it's not
available. I instead put in the plain ol' domain name we
had with 4.0 and it gets past that part. The next screen
gives me the chance to put in the DNS name of the Domain
(the .com again) and when I click ok it says that it
can't contact the domain service... I've double-checked
IPs, names, everything. When I click on browse it shows
me the correct domain but it won't get past this part.
Any help would be good. Thanks!

It sounds like you may have a DNS configuration problem. Take a look at
"816584 HOW TO: Set Up the Domain Name System for Active Directory in
Windows http://support.microsoft.com/?id=816584" and make sure that DNS is
properly configured. If that does not resolve the error you should post the
error message from the dcpromo.log file. The exact error message will be
helpful.
