Can't connect wirelessly (update)

Folks,

Original post below, still not solved, but seems 'ALL' I have to do is
reboot my router (no changes to settings) and my laptop then detects
network and connects. If no settings are being changed, what happens when I
reboot to make the laptop connect?

ORIGINAL POST:
I have just changed laptops, and after faultless operation with the old
setup I am having real headaches with the replacement.

Network consists of Desktop, wired to USR wireless router and laptop with
integrated Atheros AR5005G WiFi adaptor. Both machines run on XP Pro SP2.

The setup is the same as I had before - DHCP enabled, same key WPA-PSK
(TKIP) same SSID- everything as before, as far as I can see.

However, the new laptop will not connect automatically whan I switch on.
Sometimes it will show the network 100% strength, but will not connect, but
more often than not it just does not find the network.

To connect, I have reboot the router then run the connect wizard on the
laptop every time. Once up and running it works perfectly. I have also
tried installing my old USR wirless card from the old laptop and the same
thing happens.

I have Windows set to auto detect and connect to the network and all my
settings seem fine. I am spending so much time trying to sort this out,
it's driving me Maaaaaaaaaaaad!!

Anyone point me in the right direction, please?

First thing I'd try is switching from WPA-PSK to WEP. I've heard that
WPA-PSK on some wifi cards is troublesome.
