Can't connect to SSL in IE6SP1 with XP

I cannot connect to some SSL sites with IE6 in XP. Not all sites, just some
of them (these sites are utilizing JSP). I tried to resolve the issue by
doing everything found at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813444, but to
no avail. I also tried to do the repair found at
http://www.theeldergeek.com/repair_ie6.htm. This also didn't help.

At one time the first issue link did help me on one of the sites (especially
when I deleted offline content). However, the issue came back and nothing
is fixing it now.

I believe this all started when my better half installed the 'Comet Toolbar'
from this site http://www.cometsystems.com/privacy.shtml. I uninstalled it,
then thought perhaps the repairing of ie would do the trick.

Anyone have any suggestions other than a full reinstall of the OS?

I've the same issue and I try almost everything:
reinstalling XP 3 times, all patch but SSL is still broken

To make sure that all is clean.
Go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php#det
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware] or download direct (below):
http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

If you get a 404 error or Access denied, try:
http://216.180.252.218/~spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/hijackthis.zip

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates "startuplist.txt")

Next, go to the below location:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

Sign in, then copy and paste both files in your message.

It may be a HOSTS file problem.
Look also for a file named HOSTS (no extension, could be hidden) rename it
OLDHOSTS.

If you did not create the file, then you may parasites, or you are using a
web accelerator program that would be causing this problem.

If using XP pro. Maybe try some of the switches to release the IP.

I have also tried the same thing. I have had this
computer for three weeks (brand new). I worked with Dell
to reinstall Windows XP after trying the fixes. I still
can not access my bank site or another secure site. I
have also changed my settings. It still does not work.
Any thoughts.
