can't connect to security sites

Trust me I've tried everything in the world before coming
here. I have a symantec router going out to the
internet. I went into internet options and checked ssl
options then I added a proxy server then I also unchecked
it etc. I hooked up a modem right to the router but
couldn't get a prompt in Hypterterminal. I'm so
frustrated. I also did a search on hosts files and
renamed them as suggested. Deleted and created a new
user profile. What happens is the page can't be
displayed. Please help
