I'm totally new to networking and this is my first attempt at this and
of course I've got a problem with it.

I have a pc with windows XP SP2, connected to that is a Netgear
dg834gt router/modem.

I also have a dell Inspiron 9300 laptop with Window Home Edition and a
network card built in.

Both computers have McAfee antivirus and Internet Firewall installed.

I can access the internet no problem at all on my laptop via the
wireless network so that seems to be working ok my problem is in
connecting the 2 computers and sharing files.

The PC is called REX and the Laptop called LAPTOP

I created a workgroup called OFFICE on each computer.

I enabled file and printer sharing when I created the network and I've
also enabled sharing on all of the drives on both computers.

When using the PC if I go to My Network Place and click on view
workgroup computers I see the following

DELL (Laptop)
PC (Rex)
In the address bar at the top it says OFFICE

If I click on the DELL (Laptop) icon I can access the files on the
laptop and copy them to my pc no problem.

The problem is when I am using my laptop and I do the same thing i.e.
network place click on view workgroup computers then I get the
following error message.

"Office is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out
if you have access permissions. The network path was not found."

Can anyone help me sort this out as I would really like to be able to
access my PC from my Laptop and also use the printer connected to my
PC.

Thanks for any help

The "not accessible...network path was not found" error can have several causes.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/mysterious-error-53-aka-name-not-found.html>

First, check for misconfigured / overlooked firewalls, and for registry setting
restrictanonymous.
Misconfigured / overlooked firewalls:

Registry setting restrictanonymous:

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, and we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely:

Seems to be working now I disabled windows firewall and uninstalled
McAfee's firewall on my PC I then tried to connect to the pc via the
laptop and it worked.
I then crossed my fingers and installed McAfee 2006 and its still
working.

Thanks for the help.
