can't close pop-ups

Every time I get another pop-up banner or a page, I can't close it. It gets so bad, I have to go to the task manager to shut down IE. As I type right now, I have 6 different pages open that I can't clos

Hi,

First thing to do: check your system for adware and spyware. Download
Adaware (www.lavasoft.de) and Spybot (security.kolla.de) update them on the
first run and check your system.

for popups not living on your system in spyware, use
toolbar.google.com and use the basic install. and for
another browser choice that has a built in popup blocker as
well as downloadable ad blocking,etc., get firefox from
mozilla.org. and spybot is safer-networking.org run the
scan on easy mode and use immunize and block bad pages.
and in ie ,tools,options,advanced,,uncheck both 'enable
install on demand',apply.

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
