can't close internet window

I'm currently having the following problem with IE 6. When
I have a window open and i want to close it, all i get is
a sound through my speakers *ding*. I need to go through
the task manager to shut down IE. It first gives me the
program is not responding message. While IE is open I can
navigate but some keyboard shortcut functions do not work
(tab, del, ctrl-c,etc)

I have tried rebooting, i've run my up to date antivirus
programme but still can't find the problem. Any help would
be greatly appreciated.

Check for an adware, spyware, parasite type program.
