Can't change right margin in report - help

Bill

I am having trouble changing the right margin in a report. It is currently
set at .5 and I am getting a blank page. When I try to set it to .2, it
changes right back to .5 when I click on another text box. Can anyone tell
me how to reduce the right margin so I don't get the blank page.

Thanks.

"when you click on another text box"?

Are you in the page setup dialog box? If so, click the "OK" button.

It may be your printer doesn't allow a margin that small.

What is the total of the left margin, right margin and the report width? If
you can't change the margins, can you decrease the width of the report? Note
that sometimes there are "hidden" objects on the report (typically lines)
that extend past where you think the right-hand edge of the report should
be.

You know where it says TOP, BOTTOM, LEFT, and RIGHT? Those are text boxes
with the numbers in them. If it won't take the change when the text box
loses focus, it won't take it when you hit "OK".

Doesn't it seem odd though that I can't DECREASE the margin? I could
understand it if I couldn't INCREASE it.
The left margin is set at .2 and the right margin is set at .5. When I'm in
design mode, it says the report width is greater than the page width, but I
can't seem to make it small enough to fit. Evidently, as you say, there
must be some "hidden" object that is extending too far to the right. I
still think it's strange I can't DECREASE the margin.

No, it doesn't seem the least bit odd to me that you can't decrease the
margin if the printer doesn't support that small a margin.

To find the object(s) that are causing you the problem, put your mouse
cursor into the ruler at the top of the report. It should turn into an arrow
pointing down. Position it as far to the right of the report as you can, and
it'll select what ever objects abut the right-hand edge. See what's selected
and decrease its width.

If you enter zero in each of the margin boxes in page setup and then tab out
of them the zeros will be replaced with the minimum allowed value supported
by the printer driver. You have to understand that smaller settings mean
you are asking the printer to print closer to the edge of the paper and most
printers cannot go right to the edge.

If the minimums allowed by the printer isn't enough to get all of your
report onto a page then you need to change the design of the report.
