Can't change IE home page and ...

Desparate4Help

My laptop (XP/Home, IE 6.0) accidentally picked up a
spyware program last week. I used Ad-aware, SpyBOT-
Search/Kill, Spyblaster and SpyGuard to clean up the
Spyware part, I believed. I tried to reset the home page
for the IE and it just wouldn't budge (even Spyguard can't
do the job). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also most of the utilities (Add/Remove Programs, Disk
Cleanup, ...) under the Control Panel all of sudden
stopped working - dialog box just flashes for a second and
it's gone. I hope it wasn't caused by virus.

Reload the IE6.0, would it help? And restore the setting
(Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Restore),
would that help the problem of the Control Panel. Again
please help.

In the Immunize window of Spybot S&D, there's a section at
the bottom called 'Recommended Miscellaneous protections'.
Uncheck the appropriate boxes and you'll get the
functionality back.
