Can't backup/copy file with active NTUSER.DAT

Attempting to backup by drag & drop "C:\Documents and
Settings" to external drive. Logged on as any user, copy
fails when it encounters NTUSER.DAT & NTUSER.DAT.LOG for
the active user. Don't know how to copy without being a
user -- catch 22?
 
create a new user, reboot the machine, and log on as the new user, then copy your real profile , this will let you logon to the computer and copy your profile without logging on to it
