Can't back up open files on one machine, but can on another

I'm trying to back up files from 2 different XP home computers from a
3rd XP home computer. On the 3rd computer I can read the open IN.MBX
Eudora mailbox file from one XP computer, but not the other. Both are
set up on a NetBIOS/IPX/SPX network, both using simple file sharing,
both have the "Allow network users to change my files" checked. What
other setting am I missing that could be different on the 2 machines?

If you're using Simple File Sharing and Guest authentication, there are several
settings that will affect access. The registry settings restrictanonymous and
RestrictNullSessAccess come to mind.

And check permissions in general.

I figured it out; I closed all apps, unshared the drive, rebooted,
shared the drive, rebooted again. Now I can access the files.

I thought I did that once before but without the rebooting, maybe
rebooting is the key.

...and then a few days later the files are inaccessible again.
Thanks XP. Back to the drawing board.
