Can't add any network printers

G

Guest

I am trying to add network printers using the Add Printers button. I follow
all the steps to add a printer from the directory. I select the printer and
click on OK I get "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Either the Printer
name was typed incorrectly, or the specified printer has lost its connection
to the server."

I am logged on as the administrator and have installed the printer on
several other computers in the last few hours.
I am running XP Pro - fully patched
The server is MS 2003 enterprise.

Any suggestions?

Run the Network Setup Wizard on each Windows XP computer and turn on
File and Printer Sharing. You can create a Network Setup Floppy
Disk for those non-Windows XP computer in your LAN or use the
Windows XP CD. That is easier than manually doing it in Network
Connections. You also have to set a password for the Guest account
on the computer you want to share. Windows XP Security settings no
longer allow the Guest to connect without a password.

Earl,
Thanks for the response.
File and print sharing were already turned on, the firewall is off.
The network printer - a Canon ImageRunner 2020 - is installed on the server.
I have been able to add the printer to all of the other workstations (all xp
pro).
When I try to add the printer to my workstation, I recieve the message
"Windows cannot connect to the Printer" message.
I'm sure it has to be something specific to my computer, I'm just not sure
what..

Alan,
The network Print Providers has LanMan Print Services listed above HTTP
Print services.

that's exactly where is should be.

Can you see the print share and the remote printers folder when you open the
remote computer?

START
Run
\\printservername

Alan,
I resolved the problem. I could see all the printers on the network.
I had entries in the Event log ID 1030 & 1058. While fixing them, I did
something to get the printing working again.

Thanks for the help.
