Can't access web addresses with same domain name as Win2K server

M

Mick

I just set up a Win2K server with a domain name of
ardentdisplays.com. This server is running DHCP and
DNS. When any of the clients try to access the company's
web site - www.ardentdisplays.com or
pop.ardentdisplays.com, the DNS server can't resolve the
web addresses. I'm assuming that because the intranet
has the ardentdisplays.com domain name, the DNS server
does not look outside the intranet. I have forwarders
enabled in DNS to point to our ISP's DNS servers. It
works for any web address except ardentdisplays.com. Was
it a mistake to name the domain with the companies
internet domain name? Can I rename the domain? We only
have 5 user accounts and 5 workstations.

Mick,
To add the records needed, simply right click on your DNS zone and choose New Host. Name the record "www" without the quotes and give it the IP address
of the web server. Do the same for you POP and SMTP records as well.

The reason for all this is that the internal DNS server thinks that it is authoritative for ardentdisplays.com. If he cannot answer the request, then nobody can and
he doesn't forward the request.

Thank you,
Mike Johnston
