can't access some search engines

Kipp

For some reason I am unable to access some of the search
engines. For example, I can't access Google and
Altavista. I enter www.google.com or www.altavista.com
and it just times out. I can access yahoo.com, but when I
put in a search word or phrase into the search box, it
times out. I had no problems with any of this until I
updated my Windows XP with the reccommended security files
it suggested I install.

But I can use the search engine AllTheWeb and it works
fine. I don't understand what why this is. It is like my
computer (using XP Pro) is blocking these certain search
engines from being used. I went to
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
which was suggested by H.Leboeuf from this site and
followed the instructions, but that didn't work.

I would appreciate any help with my problem.
THANKS!!!!

Kipp,

What didn't work? ...... did you scan for spyware?
Did you follow-up with HijackThis and post your log?
If so ..... what name did you sign in as, I'll have a look.
