Can't access secured sites - have checked security settings

I am unable to access any secured sites. I have had
someone help to make sure I have all of the correct
settings in my Internet Options. The only thing that I
can think of that I did recently was to run "Hijack This"
to remove some spyware. Is there anything that I might
have removed that I shouldn't have?

I also tried to download a patch from Microsoft
(Q831167.exe) that seemed to reference my problem, but
that hasn't done anything either.

Most anti-spyware programs put the things remove into
a "quarrantine" file, so the process can be undone, in
case removing them causes a problem.

Not a techie person, just replying while waiting for
someone to reply to my problem, a couple of threads down.

Hi,
HijackThis should have made a backup of everything it fixed. You could undo
some of the fixes you're unsure of. Look in the folder to which you
installed (unzipped) HijackThis.
But before doing that, I would work through the *many* possible solutions at
