Can't access search engines

When I try to go to Google or Altavista, I either get
a "Unable to load page" error, or nothing happens at all.
When I try to use the search engine in Yahoo, nothing
happens as well. For some reason, I can use the search
engine at Compuserve.

My guess is that something has hijacked IE, but I'm not
getting any hits from Spybot. Any suggestions as to
what's going on and how to fix it?

Be sure that you install hotfix 828750 which fixes the exploit that this
virus uses:
