Can't access or delete extended partition

I have an older laptop that had Win 2000 on it, but I do not have any of the
2000 install disks. I attempted to install 98 SE, using a boot disk, fdisk,
then formatting the drive. I was unable to remove the extended partition
which is taking up more than half the hard drive space. I have tried going
back with fdisk to do so with no success.

I get messages that say "cannot delete Extended DOS Partition while logical
drives exist", "no logical drives defined", and "all available space in the
Extended DOS Partition is assigned to logical drives"??? No matter which
fdisk options I take, the extended partition is still there. It seems there
is no operating system on this extended partion and no way for me to access
it/use the disk space.

Is there anyway to clean the hard drive/start from scratch without
uninstalling Win 2000 first? Could I recover or delete that partition if I
had the 2000 disk?

Use delpart.exe. http://www.russelltexas.com/delpart.htm Copy delpart
to your DOS boot diskette (or another diskete if not enough space on the
boot disk) and use it in DOS session to delete the partitions. Then use
fdisk to recreate the partitions as you want them. ALL INFORMATION ON
THE DRIVE WILL BE LOST! But that doesn't seem to be an issue as you
were already trying to delete the partitions anyway.
