Canon Printer LBP-800 with Win XP

Bennos

I have an old laser printer (Canon, LBP-800) with a parallel port and a
laptop with Win XP and USB ports only. The problem I'm having is that I
can't install the driver. I'm also using a parallel to USB converter cable.

The driver for the printer was downloaded from Canon and installs fine with
the 'add printer' wizard but then it goes on to a window with the 'Found New
Hardware' wizard. This is where the problem is, it doesn't pick up the
downloaded driver and it doesn't let me choose it manually either.

Does anyone know of any known problems between a Canon LBP-800 laser printer
and Win XP?
