CANON ip4000 usb problem

Hi All,
Have posted this elsewhere but forgot where.
Re: new Canon ip4000 printer. Installation with parallel wire successful
but installation with usb wire unsuccessful. USB ports and wires working
okay. Have installed and uninstalled numerous times with no luck. Have
updated other driver from Canon website, still no luck. Parallel install good
but slow. Would like faster USB hookup. Appreciate anyone taking the time to
help.
Have inquired to Canon support website for info but no reply as yet.
OS windows XP Home Ed. Dell inspiron 4000
